About Us
CF Debate is a resource developed by The Co-Sentience Initiative (CoSI), launched in 2025 with funding from a consortium of venture capitalist funds and philanthropists across three continents.
CoSI is motivated by the need to prepare for a possible future shared with artificial minds. The current limitations in consciousness research have contributed to our current high-stakes scenario, as does the limited understanding of what research already exists. Diversifying and enriching the ecosystem of consciousness research is one valuable step towards a positive outcome for all sentient beings.
We do not know when or where such artificial minds might come from, the types of experiences they might have, and how we might interact with them.
Perfect certainty might be out of reach in consciousness research, at least for now. But ignoring uncertainty does not make it go away. Better decisions can be made and a better consensus can be forged – but only by engaging with the highest-quality arguments and evidence currently available. This website contributes by assembling a key set of the relevant arguments for an essential theme in today's debate on digital sentience, creating a resource that is easy to interrogate and can form the basis of structured, collective assessments.
As well as this website and surrounding activities, CoSI has a number of projects underway in this space. We are open to suggestions and collaborations.
The current project lead is Chris Percy PhD, supported by a small team of experts in analytical philosophy, computer science, and meta-ethics. You can contact Chris at chris@cspres.co.uk or on X via @chris_percy — anonymous feedback can also be submitted via this page.
